A clean future starts with
sustainable raw materials today

Sustainability is our core value

Rock Tech understands the vital role that lithium plays in powering the future. We are committed to developing the Georgia Lake Project and our Converters in a responsible and sustainable manner, and hold ourselves accountable to strict environmental, social and governance (“ESG”) standards.

Our Sustainability Strategy is based on the following pillars:

  • driving towards our operations towards net zero,
  • participating in the circular economy, and
  • being a responsible organization.

Net Zero

Rock Tech has set clear objectives for to improve its carbon footprint by 2030*:

  • 50% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions at the Guben Converter.
  • 15% reduction in Scope 3 GHG emissions at the Guben Converter.
  • 60% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions Georgia Lake Project.

*Baseline is the 2023 Life Cycle Assessment.

Circular economy

To maximize resource efficiency while minimizing its environmental footprint, Rock Tech aims to:

  • Repurpose non-lithium products: Rock Tech aims to divert at least 90% of its non-lithium products produced by its Guben converter for use in value-added applications in other industries by 2030. This promotes resource circularity and minimizes waste generation.
  • Recycled feedstock: By 2030, Rock Tech aims to produce up to 50% of its battery-grade lithium products from recycled feedstock, fostering a closed-loop approach to lithium production and reducing reliance on virgin resources.
  • Maximize water stewardship: Rock Tech prioritizes water resource management at its Georgia Lake projectProject, aiming to minimize its impact. Within two years of commercial production, Rock Tech aims to achieve Level A or higher certification under Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM)’s Water Stewardship Protocol.

Responsible Organization

Being a responsible organization means fostering an inclusive workplace, prioritizing health, safety, and wellness of our employees, contractors, and visitors, providing transparency of our Corporate sustainability disclosures, and actively participating in initiatives like the battery passport. We have established the following objectives:

  • Rock Tech is an equal opportunity employer, and all job applicants are considered for employment. By 2030, Rock Tech aims to increase its female workforce to 40%, female leadership positions to 40%, and female board membership to 50%.
  • Rock Tech is committed to fostering a generative health and safety culture with the goal of achieving “zero harm”.
  • By 2025, Rock Tech aims for corporate sustainability disclosure in alignment with TCFD recommendations, and to adopt all mandatory sustainability disclosure Frameworks.
  • To foster transparency and accountability across the supply chain, Rock Tech proactively supports the battery passport transparency requirements for lithium mining & refining in alignment with the new EU Battery Directive. Rock Tech aims for full compliance within 1 year of commercial production in Guben Converter.

Rock Tech has implemented an environmental management system for its Guben Converter activities, which was audited and certified according to the world’s most demanding standard the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS). With EMAS, Rock Tech intends to combine climate protection, resource conservation, and sustainability. The environmental policy can be found here .
